• But with who? She didn't know anybody that was even slightly close to what she wanted. She was through with online dating. That had been a total waste. Guys sometimes still asked her out, but not often. She'd tried with a couple of them, but her heart simply wasn't in it. She found herself, somewhat to her surprise, thinking more and more about Mark. What was he up to? How was he doing? Did he even miss her? Did he ever think about her? Could he ever be seriously interested in her, see her as an adult and not a child, see her as herself and not her mother, see her as a potential partner, an equal, and not just as a much younger woman he had a crazy fling with?
• Maybe it was because her parents were gone. Maybe it was because since she became an adult she'd never had the kind of one-on-one time with him like they'd shared on that hike. Now she could see Mark not as her parents' friend, but as just a man. And the more she looked at him, the more she liked what she saw.
